Modernizing Biblical Literacy for Today

Updated: Sep 30, 2023

The world around us is changing and is evolving. Technology has become our primary means of gathering information. The Bible, for some, may feel old and outdated. That thought is far from the truth. The Bible is timeless, and it speaks to every generation and culture. Modernizing biblical literacy is about welcoming new ways to study and apply the Bible to our everyday lives today.

Merging with Technology

The message of the Bible does not change, but how we receive it and teach it must evolve. Using technology with all its digital capabilities will allow for deeper interaction and give access to those who cannot engage traditionally. Merging technology with previous methods will help reach a larger audience, including the youth, by using digital platforms that they use. A balanced approach to ensure the Word of God is not compromised but a fresh delivery of the message and its content.

Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Let us break this down in basic terms:

“The grass withers and the flowers fall…” Here, we see the symbolism of the grass and flower falling, illustrating the temporary nature of the things in life. Everything around us, and even us, will not last forever.

“…but the word of our God endures forever.” Unlike the temporary nature of the world, the Word of God endures. The Word of God is reliable, relevant, and reassuring in the changing times.

The world is ever-changing. There is no clear certainty. With this verse, we are assured and comforted that the Bible is a reliable source of hope. Spending time learning the knowledge and truth it provides is worth it.

Modern Methods

This model allows students to review all materials before class, and the classroom is centered on discussion and critical thinking.

This model blends online with traditional learning, allowing students to interact in person and online.

This model uses gaming components in learning to make it more engaging and active.

This model requires students to work on projects in real-life situations to challenge and promote critical thinking.

This model urges students to lead and teach their fellow students to better understand the subject matter.

Get Involved

How has technology allowed you to grow your faith? Share your thoughts and experience with me through audio, video, or by writing it? I would love to hear or see you (drop a video).

Have you considered Jesus? Jesus is the only one we can truly experience a transformed life. I invite you to receive Him today as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” There is assurance in these words. Please let me know if you made the decision to follow Jesus. I would love to celebrate with you.
