Growing Together: The Role of Biblical Literacy in the Community

Updated: Sep 30, 2023

When individuals are personally impacted, the community will have a ripple effect. The community can flourish when biblical literacy is at the center. Approaching and engaging the community with the scriptures creates a shared foundation within the collective. This will have the capability to impact not only individual lives but everyone. There is strength in numbers, and the power of change through the Word can happen one neighborhood at a time.

Shared Community

According to the Bible, when a community comes together under a shared purpose, it will be united to stand against what is wrong and promote what is right. Everyone is connected and committed to living out the biblical principles together. The Bible will guide the community to live with justice, love, and respect with each interaction. There will be engagement and reaching out to serve others. A community operating under the power of the Word becomes a force to impact the world.

Communities in Action

Founded in 1942, this community aspires to what the Kingdom of God looks like by intentionally living out what the Christian community was like in the book of Acts.

Founded in 1998, this community lives among and serves the poor. They believe in living out the example of community, as illustrated in the book of Acts.

Founded in 1938, this community has a shared value of living out the Christian faith in everyday life and work.

Scripture

Matthew 18:20 reads, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Let us break this down in basic terms:

“For where two or three gather…” We see here that there is not a need for a large crowd. Even a small group of 2 or 3 is significant.

“…in my name…” There is a purpose of coming together. Jesus is the central focus when we come together “in His name” to live out what we learn of Him.

“…there am I with them…” Here, we see a great promise by Jesus. Jesus will be in the midst of those who gather and prioritize their attention in obedience to His commands, no matter the size, to make an impact.

Get Involved

How has engaging the Bible in your community strengthened or influenced others? Share your thoughts and experience with me through audio, video, or by writing it? I would love to hear or see you (drop a video).

Invitation

Have you considered Jesus? Jesus is the only one we can truly experience a transformed life. I invite you to receive Him today as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” There is assurance in these words. Please let me know if you made the decision to follow Jesus. I would love to celebrate with you.
